A recipe calls for 2 2/4 cups of raisins, but Julie only has a 1/4 cup measuring cup. How many 1/4 cups does Julie need to measure out 2 2/4 cups of raisins?

    You would do:

    2 2/4 : 1/4

    The way you do that is:

    Step one: convert the 2 2/4 to an improper fraction:

    Multiply 4 by the whole number 2 to get 8 and then

    add the numerator (number on top of the fraction) 2 to get 10 / 4.

    Now you have 10/4 : 1/4.

    The way you divide fractions is you flip the second fraction upside down and change it to multiply:

    10/4 x 4/1 = 40/4 = 10

    So she would need 10 of her quarter cups for the recipe.
