18. An animal shelter houses only cats and dogs, and there are 25% more cats than dogs. If there are 40 cats,

how many dogs are there, and how many animals are there total?

Is it 72 or 70?

    There are 72 animals.

    There are 40 cats.

    40 = (numDogs) * 1.25

    (multiplying by 1.25 increases it by 25%)

    numDogs = 40/1.25 = 32

    Total = 40 + numDogs = 40+32 = 72
