How do I find the value of x so the slope of a line through (x, 5) and (4,2) is 1/3?

    Slope=change in y/change in x

    1/3 = 5-2/x-4 (or 2-5/4-x)

    1/3 = 3/x-4

    then cross multiply

    1 (x-4) = 3 (3)

    x-4=9

    add 4 to both sides

    x=13
