Eduardo dissolved as much salt as he could into a beaker of water. He did not measure the salt as he put it in, but he wanted to know how much salt had dissolved into the water. He weighed the saltwater and the beaker. The total mass of both was 156 g. Eduardo gently heated the beaker of saltwater until all the water evaporated, then weighed it again.

The salt and beaker together massed 56 g. When he removed all the salt from the beaker, the beaker weighed 20 g.

How much salt did Eduardo dissolve into the water?

136 g

    Salt and beaker weighs 56g

    Beaker weighs 20g

    Therefore salt weighs 56 - 20 = 36g

PS the total mass (156g) is a red herring!
