Wanda started walking along a path 2 minutes (120 seconds) before Dave. Wanda walked at a constant rate of 5 feet per second. Dave walked along the same path at a constant rate of 10 feet per second. Graph the system of linear equations. If they continue walking at these rates, when will Dave catch up to Wanda?

    The solution for the problem:

    let x be the travel time of Dave

    x + 120 be the travel time of Wanda

    using the distance formula which is: speed * travel time = distance (which will be the same for both Wanda and Dave)

    10x = 5 (x+120)

    10x = 5x + 600

    5x = 600x = 120

    Dave will catch up after 120 seconds.
