In this question there are several information's of great importance. Using these information's, the required answer can be easily deduced ... Firstly it has been mentioned that the large container holds 5 gallons of water. In 10 minutes the water comes down to 3 gallons. Then

    Amount of water lost in 10 minutes = (5 - 3) gallons

    = 2 gallons

    So

2 gallons of water is lost within a time = 10 minutres

    5 gallons of water will be lost in = (10/2) * 5

    = 5 * 5

    = 25 minutes

So the large container will be empty in 25 minutes
