    Let us assume that the number of putts made by Paul = x

    Then

    The number of putts made by Chris = 4x

    The total number of putts made by Paul and Chris together = 60

    Then the equation to find the number of putts made by Paul is

    x + 4x = 60

    The above equation can be solved to find the total number of puts made by Paul. Let us now solve the equation.

    x + 4x = 60

    5x = 60

    x = 60/5

    = 12

    So Paul made 12 putts in total.
