    8/5 (x - 6) = - 54

    multiply both sides by 5/8, eliminating the 8/5 on the left

    x - 6 = - 54 * 5/8

    x - 6 = - 270/8

    add 6 to both sides

    x = - 270/8 + 6

    x = - 270/8 + 48/8

    x = - 222/8 which reduces to - 111/4

    X (-8/5) - 6 = - 54 (I hope I'm writing this problem out correctly)

    Add 6 to both sides

    (-8/5) x = - 48

    Multiply each side by - 5/8

    x = 30

    I hope this is right!
