The denominator of a fraction is 4 more than the numerator. if both the numerator and the denominator of the fraction are increased by 3, the new fraction is 5/6. find the original fraction.

    (x+3) / ((x+4) + 3) = 5/6

    (x+3) / (x+7) = 5/6

    6 (x+3) = 5 (x+7)

    6x+18=5x+35

    x=35-18

    x=17

    17 / (17+4) = 17/21

    check : (17+3) / (17+4+3) = 20/24=5/6
