    Pecans = 1/4

    almonds = 1/2

    you have to add dissimilar fractions ... how?

    get the LCD (least common denominator) of the two denominators.

    2=2,4,6,8,10 ...

    4=4,8,12,16,20 ...

    least common denominator = 4

    1?

    / = /

    2 4

    1?

    / = /

    4 4

    you have to divide the LCD from the denominator.

    4:2=2

    4:4=1

    after dividing, you have to multiply your current numbers with the numerator.

    2*1=2

    4*1=4

    your final answers are the numerators.

    1 2

    / = /

    2 4

    1 4

    / = /

    4 4

    now you have to add

    2/4 + 4/4 = 6/4

    if you have to make it a mixed number, divide.

    6:4 = 1 remainder 2

    the quotient (1) will be your whole number

    the denominator will still be the same as the old one. (4)

    the remainder is the numerator.

    mixed number = 1 2/4

    1 2/4 or 1 1/2 (if needed simplified) is the answee
