Mark has consumed one-fifth of a box of cookies, and Patricia has gobbled up another two-thirds. If the box originally had 60 cookies, how many are now left?

    Answer:The box had 60 cookies.

    Mark consumed 1/5 or (1/5) * 60 = 12 cookies.

    There are 60 - 12 = 48 cookies left.

    Patricia ate another 2/3 of the cookies left or: (2/3) * 48 = 32 cookies.

    What is left is 48 - 32 = 16 cookies.
