    To solve for W, you have to get it by itself.

    To do this, start with your formula,

    A=LW

    You have to divide both sides by L to get W by itself.

    A/L = W

    Now that the formula has been transformed, to A/L = W, here's the meaning:

    If you divide A by L, you will get W. (If you divide Area by Length, you will get the width).
