    8x-28-2x=-10

    Add 28 to each side to get all the x's on one side by themselves:

    8x-28-2x=-10

    8x-2x=18

    Simplify the left side:

    8x-2x=18

    6x=18

    Divide each side by 6 to get the value of one individual "x":

    6x/6=18/6

    x=3
