    So we need to solve: x² - 13x + 4 by factoring.

    Well ... You can't do that by factoring. The only way to factor this, is to do the criss cross factoring method and we can't do that in this case. So we have to use the quadratic formula to solve this.

    But you asked to solve x² - 13x + 4 only by factoring.
