    Let Y = larger number

    Sum of numbers is 130 = => X + Y = 130 = => Y = 130 - X

    4 times the smaller subtracted from the larger is 10 = =>

    Y - 4*X = 10

    Substitute the value for Y in to the 2nd equation

    (130 - X) - 4*X = 10

    130 - 5*X = 10

    -5*X = - 120

    X = 24

    Y = 130 - 24 = 106

    Check: 24 + 106 = 130

    106 - 4*24 = 106 - 96 = 10
