The perimeter of a rectangle is 496 ft the length is 20 ft longer than the width find the area of the rectangle

    P = 2 (L + W)

    P = 496

    L = W + 20

    496 = 2 (W + 20 + W)

    496 = 2 (2W + 20)

    496 = 4W + 40

    496 - 40 = 4W

    456 = 4W

    456/4 = W

    114 = W

    L = W + 20

    L = 114 + 20

    L = 134

    the area ... A = L * W

    A = 134 * 114

    A = 15276 square ft < = = or 15276 ft^2

    This might be different from someone else's calculations if i got it wrong but using substitution i found the width to be 114 ft and length to be 134 ft. multiply those together and you get A=15276 ft.
