A car salesman's total earnings, e, is a base salary plus a commission. The salesman has a base salary of $40,000 and receives a commission of $200 for every car, c, he sells. Which equation represents the total earnings for the salesman

    The equation that best represents the total earnings for the salesman is letter c which is e=40,000+200 x c

    It is because in order to get the total earnings, you have to add the base salary to the commission that the salesman receives. Whereas, the $40,000 is added to the commission where the $200 is multiplied to c (every car the salesman sells).
