Jack has a painting that measure 3gt tall by 4ft wide. Jack wants to get the painting matted and framed and hang it in between two bookshelves The distance between the bookshelves is 5 feet. Assuming he wants to leave 2 inches on either side of the bookshelf what's maximum number of inches he can use. For matting and framing

    If the painting is 4 ft wide and there is a 5 foot space then you do 5 - 4 and then since a foot is 12 inches and you need 2 inches on both sides then you do 12 - 2 - 2 = 8 inches
