    2y² + y - 3

    (2y+3) (y-1)

    2y (y-1) + 3 (y-1)

    2y² - 2y + 3y - 3

    2y² + y - 3

    2y + 3 = 0

    2y = - 3

    y = - 3/2

    y = - 1 1/2

    y - 1 = 0

    y = 1

    2y² + y - 3 = 0

    2 (-3/2) ² + (-3/2) - 3 = 0

    2 (9/4) - 3/2 - 3 = 0

    18/4 - 3/2 - 3 = 0

    18/4 - (3/2 * 2/2) - 3 (4/4) = 0

    18/4 - 6/4 - 12/4 = 0

    (18 - 6 - 12) / 4 = 0

    (18 - 18) / 4 = 0

    0/4 = 0

    0 = 0
