    When solving with one placehoolder (x) try to get the placeholdedr on one side by itself

    with equations, you can do anything to both sides (except divide by zero) so that it stays equal

    so3x+4=16

    subtract 4 from both sides

    3x+4-4=16-4

    3x=12

    divide both sides by 3

    3x/3=12/3

    x=4

    answer, x=4

    3x + 4 = 16

    3x = 16 - 4

    3x = 12 (divide both sides by 3 to get x)

    3x/3 = 12/3

    x = 4
