The width of Jana's rectangular classroom is 1 meter more then 1/4 of its length. if the perimeter of the classroom is 24 meters what is the length?

    Basically multiply 1 x 1/4 then whatever you get divide it

    Let's call the length L, the width w.

    We have w=1+L/4.

    The perimeter is P=2 (L+w) = 24 hence L+w=12

    L+w=L + (1+L/4) = 5L/4+1=12

    Hence L=11/5*4=8.8 meters
