A recipe requires 3/8 cup of sugar for each cup of flour used. If a baker uses 10 cups of flour what is the total amount of sugar that will be needed? Between what two whole numbers does your answer lie?

    3/8 cup of sugar = 1 cup of flour

    ? cup of sugar = 10 cup of flour

    cross multiply

    10 (3/8) = 1x?

    ? = 15/4 (which is 3.75 cups)

    answer: 15/4 or 3.74 cups of sugar

    The answer lies between whole numbers, 3 and 4.

    For 1 cup of flour he uses 3/8 cup of sugar

    for 2 ... 2 * 3/8 ...

    for 3 ... 3 * 3/8 ...

    for 10 ... 10 * 3/8 ...

    Answer: 30/8 = 3 cups & 3/4 or 3.75
