Residents of a small city voted on whether to allow a developer to build a shopping center. The number of votes in favor of shopping center was 4,400. The number of votes against the shopping center was 17,600. What percent of the voters were in favor of building the shopping center?

    20%. Because the total (4400+17600=22000) divided by the total for the shopping center =.2. Move the decimal two places to the right for the percent and you get 20%

    Add the number of votes in favor of shopping with the number of votes against the shopping center

    then divide 4,400 over the answer you got above and multiply by 100
