    Unfortunately, you overlooked the need to share Steps 1-6.

    Solve: (log to the base 3 of) (x+2) = (log to the base 3 of) (2x^2-1).

    Use (log to the base 3 of) (x+2) as the exponent of 3 in the equation 3 = 3:

    (log to the base 3 of) (x+2) (log to the base 3 of) (2x^2-1)

    3 = 3

    This reduces to x+2 = 2x^2 - 1, which, in turn, simplifies to 2x^2 - 1 - x - 2 = 0, or

    2x^2 - x - 3 = 0. You could use the quadratic formula or some other method to solve this for x. The roots are 3/2 and - 1.
