One leg of a right triangle is 6 in. longer than the other leg. the hypotenuse of the triangle is 25 in. what is the length of each leg to the nearest inch?

    Small leg = x

    longer leg = x+6

    hypotenuse = 25

    Using the Pythagorean theorem x^2 + (x+6) ^2 = 25^2

    I use a graphing calculator and

    x = 14.421 so the longest leg = 20.421

    or 14 and 20 inches
