How do you put y=3.5x+4 in a word problem

    y = the amount of money you spend at a store.

    x = how many packs of pencils you buy

    3.50 is the price you pay for each pack of pencils

    4 is the price you payed for your notebook

    the amount you owe = 3.5 (the amount of pencils you buy) + 4 for the notebook
