    A) 2x=96-14y

    B) 9x=40-14y

    Rearranging algebraically

    A) 2x + 14y = 96

    B) 9x + 14y = 40

    Multiplying equation A by - 1

    A) - 2x - 14y = - 96 Then adding it to equation B

    B) 9x + 14y = 40

    7x = - 56

    x = - 8

    2*-8 = 96 - 14y

    -16 - 96 = - 14y

    -112 = - 14y

    y = 8
