The speed s (in miles per hour) of a car driving on dry asphalt can be given by s=4.74d√, where d is the stopping distance (in feet). What is the approximate stopping distance of a car traveling 55 miles per hour? Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

    If (s) stands for speed and later in the question it says that the car was going 55 miles per hour you will replace the s in the equation with the number 55.

    55=4.74d

    Now you need to find (d)

    If you look at this equation another way you will see that what it's saying is 4.74 x? Is 55

    Because d replaces the question mark

    So 55 divided by 4.74 is 11.603 which is the answer
