Write a system of linear equations that show the cost in dollars, y, for a cab ride of x miles for each cab driver.

    Simple,

    plug n chug

    so ... 10 miles ... plug it into the equations ...

    y=3x+1

    and

    y=2x+3

    y=3 (10) + 1

    y=30+1

    y=$31

    Then ...

    y=2x+3

    y=2 (10) + 3

    y=20+3

    y=$23

    Thus, Madeline's cab company charges cheaper.
