What are two consecutive integers, such that eight times the larger minus two times the smaller is 236?

    2 consecutive integers : x and x + 1

    8 (x + 1) - 2 (x) = 236 ... distribute thru the parenthesis

    8x + 8 - 2x = 236 ... simplify

    6x + 8 = 236 ... subtract 8 from both sides

    6x = 236 - 8

    6x = 228 ... divide both sides by 6

    x = 228/6

    x = 38

    x + 1 = 38 + 1 = 39

    ur 2 integers are : 38 and 39
