    12 quarters=$3

    $8.60-$3=$5.60

    now the number of quarters is the same as the number of dimes

    quarters=.25

    dimes=.10

    .25+.10=.35

    $5.60/.35=16

    quarters=16+12=28; he has 28 quarters

    dimes=16; he has 16 dimes
