You might want to start by lining your numbers up vertically, bigger number on top

Well the way I multiply bigger numbers is like this ...
43 x 42
43
42
3 times 2 equals six
then 4 times 2 is 8
then add your zero place
then 4 times 3
and then 4 times 4
Or ... something like this.
