Zoe is solving the equation 3x - 4 = - 10 for x.

She used the addition property of equality to isolate the variable term as shown.

3x - 4 = - 10

3x - 4 + 4 = - 10 + 4

3x = - 6

Which two properties of equality could Zoe use to finish solving for x?

either the addition or subtraction property of equality

either the multiplication or division property of equality

    The answer is either the multiplication or division property of equality

    3x - 4 = - 10

    3x - 4 + 4 = - 10 + 4

    3x = - 6

    So, she can either multiply both sides of the equation by 1/3:

    3x * 1/3 = - 6 * 1/3

    x = - 2

    Or she can divide both sides by 3:

    3x/3 = - 6/3

    x = - 2
