First there are 16 ounces in 1 pound therefore 8 ounces would equal 1/2 pound. Kevin has a total of 54 ounces when the dried apples (36 ounces) are added to the dried cranberries (18 ounces). Take the total ounces of 54 and divide it by 8 (the 1/2 pound containers). 54 divided by 8 equals 6.75. Kevin will be able to fill 6 of the containers with 0.75 leftover. Now 0.75 can be converted to a fraction of 75/100 which simplifies to 3/4. Now 3/4 of 8 will equal 6. So Kevin will have 6 filled containers with 6 ounces of fruit snack left over. He needs 8 ounces to make another container but only has 6 left over so he doesn't have enough left to make another full container.
