    15 red and 10 clear

    Step-by-step explanation:

    let r represent red vases and c represent clear vases, then

    r + c = 25 → (1)

    4.2r + 5.7c = 120 → (2)

    Multiply (1) by - 4.2 and add to (2) to eliminate r

    - 4.2r - 4.2c = - 105 → (3)

    Add (2) and (3) term by term

    1.5c = 15 (divide both sides by 1.5)

    c = 10

    Substitute c = 10 into either of the 2 equations and solve for r

    Substituting c = 10 in (1)

    r + 10 = 25 (subtract 10 from both sides)

    r = 15

    Thus 15 red vases and 10 clear vases were bought.
