First simplify the equation
6x-54=4x-20
Then solve the equation
6x-54=4x-20
6x-4x-54=-20
2x-54=-20
2x=-20=54
2x=34
x=34/2
x=17

First simplify
6x-54=4x-20
add 20 to both sides
6x-34=4x
subtract 6x from both sides
-34=-2x
divide by - 2 on both sides
17=x
