    P²-12p-49=-103

    add 49 to both sides

    p²-12p=-54

take 1/2 of the linear coefient and square it

    -12 is the linear coefitnt so - 12/2=-6, (-6) ²=36

    add 36 to both sides

    p²-12p+36=-18

    factor perfect square trinomial

    (p-6) ²=-18

    square root both sides

no solution because we can't squaer anything and get a negative
