    Hey there, first we simplify 8 (3+a) = 64 into 8a+24=64, subtract 24 from both sides, 8a+24-24=64-24=8a=40, divide both sides by 8, 8a/8=40/8, a=5.

    I hate mobymax but a is 5 because 5 + 3 is 8 and 8 times 8 is 64
