What side lengths should be used to model a rectangle with an area of x2 + 3x - 10 square units?

    The area of a rectangle is A=ab, where a and b are the side dimensions.

    So if you factor A, you will see what a and b are ...

    x^2+3x-10

    x^2-2x+5x-10

    x (x-2) + 5 (x-2)

    (x+5) (x-2)

    So the sides have lengths of (x+5) and (x-2)
