Irene makes a second batch of 3 and 1/4 cups of pancake batter. She wants to know how much more batter she made in the first batch. She estimates that the difference between the sizes of the two batches 4 and 2/3 - 3 and 1/4 is 2 and 1/12. Explain why this estimate is not reasonable.

    4 2/3 is equal to 4 8/12. 3 and 1/4 is equal to 3 3/12. 4 8/12 - 3 3/12 = 1 5/12. 1 1/2 would be a better estimate.
