Assume the numbers are x, y

    x+y = - 53

    x*y = - 24

    from equation 1 we get y = - 53-x

    sub in eqn. 2

    x * (-53 - x) = - 24

    then x^2 + 53x - 24 = 0

and by solving the equation and substitute we get

    the two numbers are

    0.449 & - 53.452
