If 2a-9=-85 what is the value of the variable

    Solution / a=-38.

    Since its a subtraction problem you need to add.

    -9 + 9 cancels each other out which takes u back to 2a.

    next you have to add - 9 + - 85 which gives you - 94.

    Now you have 2a = - 94 and 2 divided by 94 gives you - 38, and 2a cancels out so all u have left is "a" which gives you ur answer a=-38

    Look:

    2a - 9 = - 85

    Pass the term - 9 to the left side of equation, but changing the sinal

    2a = - 85 + 9

    Sum - 85 + 9 = - 76

    Then,

    2a = - 76

    Nos, pass the 2 dividing - 76

    a = - 76 : 2

    a = - 38
