The length of a rectangle is one more than twice its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 98 inches, what are the dimensions of the rectangle?

    Let width = x

    length = 2x + 1

    perimeter = 2 (L) + 2 (W)

    98 = 2 (x) + 2 (2x + 1)

    98 = 2x + 4x + 2

    98 = 6x + 2

    96 = 6x

    96/6 = x

    16 = x

    width = 16 in

    length = 2x + 1 = 2 (16) + 1 = 33 in
