Why is (4,1) not a solution to the equation y=3x+1?

Explain.

    Because it would become 1 = 3 (4) + 1 which would simplify to 1=13 which is incorrect, if the coordinates were 1,4 then it would be correct

    The (4, 1) is an ordered pair. The format for an ordered pair is (x, y).

    So 4 = x and 1 = y.

    Plugging in the values gives us 1 = 3 (4) + 1.

    Which of course we can already see that this is not true.
