Mr and Mrs Smith each have a car. Mr Smiths car has needed 6 tyres and 2 batteries since new. Mrs Smiths car has needed 9 tyres and 1 battery. a. How many tyres and batteries have the smiths needed together? b. Use t to stand for a tyre and b to stand for a battery. Write down an expression and then simplify it, to show how to get your answer in part a.

    A. 15 tyres, 3 batteries.

    b. 6 + 9 = t

    2 + 1 = b

    t = 15

    b = 3
