While spending Veteran's Holiday at Yosemite National Park, we were camping at the base of El Capitan, and decided to nap. While napping a bear took half of our meals out of our backpacks. We decided to not get too stressed over it, and decided to forget about it. While hiking the John Muir Trail, we decided to stop and take a dip in the river. While swimming, the bears found our ripped apart backpack again and ate 2/3 of the remaining meals. We tried our best to make the most of the beautiful scenery, and moved on. On our second to last day, we hiked to the base of Half Dome and did some rock climbing. While climbing the bears showed up again, found our shredded backpack and took 2/5 of the remaining meals, and left us with 6 meals to survive on. How many meals did we start out with in

    They started out with 60 meals

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Firstly, While napping a bear took half of the meals.

    Proportion Taken=1/2

    Remainder = 1-1/2=1/2

    While swimming, the bears ate 2/3 of the remaining meals.

    Proportion Taken = 2/3 of Previous

    = 2/3 of 1/2=1/3

    Remainder now = 1/2-1/3=1/6

    While climbing the bears took 2/5 of the remaining meals

    Proportion Taken

    =2/5 of Previous Remainder

    =2/5 of 1/6=2/5 X 1/6 = 1/15

    Remainder Now = 1/6-1/15=1/10

    Since They are left with 6 meals and the proportion left is 1/10

    We want to find the number of Meals they Started Out with.

    Let total=y

    1/10 of the total = 6

    1/10 X y = 6

    y = 10X6 = 60.

    They started out with 60 meals
