The volume of a rectangular prism is v = LxWxH. We have the height, H = 17, L = 4+2W and w as is. Multiply them each

    (4+2W) (W) (17) = 2720

    34w2 + 68w = 2720

    34w2+68w-2720=0

You want to solve for w. Divide the equation by 34 getting:

    w2+2w-80=0

    Then factor the equation, (w+10) (w-8) = 0 w=8

Then the weight is 8 inches
