1. Write an equation of an ellipse in standard form with the center at the origin and with the given characteristics.

vertex at (-3,0) and co-vertex at (0,2)

A) x^2/9 + y^2/4 = 1

B) x^2/4 + y^2/9 = 1

C) x^2/3 + y^2/2 = 1

D) x^2/2 + y^2/3 = 1

2. What is the standard form equation of the ellipse with vertices at (0,6) and (0,-6) and co-vertices at (4,0) and (-4,0) ?

A) x^2/4 + y^2/6 = 1

B) x^2/16 + y^2/36 = 1

C) x^2/36 + y^2/16 = 1

D) x^2/6 + y^2/4 = 1

3. An elliptic track has a major axis that is 80 yards long and a minor axis that is 72 yards long. Find an equation for the track if its center is (0,0) and the major axis is the x-axis.

A) x^2/72 + y^2/80 = 1

B) x^2/1296 + y^2/1600 = 1

C) x^2/80 + y^2/72 = 1

D) x^2/1600 + y^2/1296 = 1

    Here are your answers 1 - A, 2 - B, and 3 - D. I will show I I got 1.

To get tthe bottom numbers just square the distance from the center of the ellipse to the edge. Since the first one was 3 away from the center 3 * 3 is 9 and that goes under the varible that changed and that was x. The y distance was 2 so 2 * 2 = 4 and that will go under the y. so I got:

    x^2/9 + y^2/4 = 1
