A man wants to make up 100 one-pound jars of nuts to sell for 66 cents a jar. He plans to use 40 pounds of nuts worth 75 cents a pound. What should be the price of the other type of nuts he uses? Answer:

    He has 40 pounds that cost 75 cents/pound

    He wants to sell 100 pounds for 66 cents a pound.

    The equation looks like this.

    40*75 + 60*x = 100*66

    3000 + 60x = 6600 Subtract 3000 from both sides.

    60x = 6600 - 3000

    60x = 3600 Divide by 60

    x = 3600/60

    x = 60

    He needs to mix 60 pounds of 60 cent nuts
