A parallelogram has an area of 14 cm 2.     Game: If the 18 is derived from a 9 x 2 rectangle, dividing by 3 will give us a 3 x 2/3 rectangle and 2/3 of 3 is an area of 2.

    If 18 is derived from a 6 x 3 rectangle, dividing by 3 yield a 2 x 1 rectangle whichi is still and area of 2.

    Finally if the rectangle is 18 x 1 - dividing by 3 yields 6 x 1/3 and 1/3 of 6 is also 2.

    You would find that this is true even if you started with a 36 x 1/2.

    Divide by 3 is the answer
